The Downfall of the Classic RPG

Call me old school, but I grew up with traditional RPG games like Ultima and Might 'n' Magic on the PC and Final Fantasy/Dragon Warrior on the NES and SNES. I understand that technology has to evolve, but why does the gameplay have to be thrown out the window?

Scientists Build Portable Life-Signs Detector: Tricorder 1.0

"A team of US and UK scientists have invented a portable scanner that may be useful in the hunt for life on Mars. And it sounds a whole lot like a Star Trek tricorder: it uses a beam of ultraviolet laser light and detects fluorescence from organic molecules, so it works remotely and doesn't damage samples. Under simulated-Mars conditions, they've used it to detect polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (found on comets, thought to be building-blocks of life) in masses as small as 1.5 micrograms. Plus they think the tech could be adapted to be rugged and fitted onto a future Mars rover. Just wait for the handheld version, and for an astronaut to start going "widdlywee..." as they stomp around Mars."

George Carlin Has Died

A sad loss ...

Entertainment Tonight broke the news that "comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business, and he had just finished his last HBO special in March, "It's Bad for Ya."

I sorry we lost him so young. My thoughts are with his family, may they find peace.

Far out space link

I am a big fan of the Sid and Marty Krofft shows of old. There is a nice photo up here about The Land of the Lost coming next summer. But along the way I prompted by a video that has the opening and closing credits of The Far Out Space Nuts.

A personal favorite of mine. Bob Denver to me is just HI-larious and I use to love this show. While watching the end credits I saw a familiar name Herman Zimmerman! When I looked him up on I was happy to see Mr. Zimmerman was the same person who was the original set designer on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I'm glad to see my taste in well executed and well designed Sci-fi entertainment hasn't changed.
Thanks for all the great entertainment Mr. Zimmerman.

Photobombers: Ruining Your Pictures, One Click at a Time

You may have heard tale of the fabled subset of bonehead known as The photobomber. This (often intoxicated) dude works his way stealthily into your photographs, completely marring what would have been another awesome picture of you and your friends holding up your beers and smiling.
We use to do this all the time, back in the 70's when I use to go to bars. That's all over with now, I was on "Intervention."
#22 is the best of the bunch. Perfect. (If there true.)
